About Wagga City Rugby Male Choir

The Wagga City Rugby Male Choir was initially formed on Wednesday 10th May, 2000 with the dream of a Rugby Choir driven by Dave Mundy and under the musical leadership of Chris Fox. Ably assisted by Jo Wicks on piano, a core of about 8 singers practised regularly in the Kindergarten rooms of South Wagga Public School. Despite a long season of rehearsal, the choir didn’t quite get around to performing to an audience before accompanist, Jo Wicks, departed for the border country. The choir went into recess at the end of 2000. Definitely an untapped resource in the choral landscape of Wagga Wagga!

After a 5 year break the choir reemerged in 2006 under the same team. The Wagga City Rugby Male Choir now boasts 75 members and a string of performances including the hosting of three Choir Spectaculars at the Wagga Civic Theatre in 2008, 2009 and 2010, the choir’s involvement in the Maestro and the Men Concert conducted by Alwyn Humphreys and held in the Llewellyn Hall, Canberra in November, 2008, being part of a three hundred voice choir at the Sydney Town Hall in November, 2010, the choir’s tour of Germany, England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland in 2010.  On that tour, the WCRMC was privileged to sing in Nordlingen, Germany and then in Britain with the Budleigh Salterton MVC, Cardiff Arms Park Male Choir, Aber Valley MVC, Linlithgow RFCMVC and Barrow MVC. An incredible experience indeed.

The WCRMC hosted the Australian National Boys Choir in Wagga Wagga in November, 2011 and performed in Melbourne with 350 choristers in the second Maestro and the Men Concert, again conducted by Alwyn Humphreys in November, 2012. More recently, the choir performed at the MCAA concert in Canberra 2014 and Wollongong in 2017 and  hosted the Sydney Male Choir . Recent tours included Tonga and New Zealand where we sang with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra. New Zealand was re-visited in 2017.
